“How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is clearly Ocean.”

Overlooking the majestic beauty of Walker Bay, The Marine is ideally situated to take to the seas of the Overberg. The ocean permeates every bit of your stay at The Marine, with its maritime history and subtle references to this can be found in the luxurious décor. Located on the famous cliff path of Hermanus visitors have the unique opportunity to experience the finest land-based whale watching in the world from June to November each year.

Boat-based whale-watching [and other sea creatures too]

Jump on board Southern Right Charters for a boat-based whale-watching trip of a lifetime between June and December to see Hermanus’s annual visitors, the Southern Right whales. Though the boats operate all year long and our guests can enjoy a plethora of marine sightings. You’ll set off from the Old Harbour on a purpose-built catamaran. On board a guide, will interpret the marine life encountered and provide insight while the action is taking place. There is also a videographer to capture footage, and will be available to guests after the trip. On the trip you may also encounter: Bryde’s whales, dolphins, African penguins, seals and many types of sea birds.
