We asked South African Tourism to put together something for our blog about the Culinary Destination that South Africa has become.
This is their submission:
“You’ll find a wide range of fabulous restaurants in our major cities, specialising in anything from Fine Dining, Italian and Indian to Thai and Chinese and everything in-between.
But, you’d be missing out if you didn’t try our homegrown cuisine – we’re talking about a good old-fashioned braai with all the trimmings, a Cape Malay curry to make your heart sing, an enormous platter of piri-piri prawns served up with a view of the ocean and a groaning table of Afrikaner specialties such as boerewors.
You’ll find a number of township restaurants serving up chisa nyama, chakalaka and home-brewed beer. African restaurants are also popular, where music, art and traditional face painting mix well with the hospitable atmosphere.
While in South Africa, make sure you take advantage of our great natural settings. You can eat with your feet in the sand, in caves overlooking the ocean, under the starry skies in the middle of the bush, with sharks swimming in the background, at the edge of a cliff, on a luxury yacht, the options are as endless as your imagination.
Yes the options, in this beautiful country we are all lucky enough to call home, are indeed as endless as our imaginations.”
In fact you need only visit The Cellars-Hohenort, The Marine and The Plettenberg to experience almost every single thing highlighted by South African Tourism. Isn’t that wonderful?
